My Valentine

Have you heard the Hallmark commercial this year?  Valentine's Day is not just about "I love you," but more about "I love us." I met my Valentine over 7 years ago.  In honor of Valentine's Day, here's a look back at how it all started for us...
The first time we ever spent time together was May 2004 in New York City.  I'm not sure if it takes a while for some people to know if they've found "the One," but for us, we knew right away.  It took us a few weeks to actually talk about it, but we knew from the moment we saw each other in New York that we wanted to get married.

Monroe Family Vacation - Ft. Walton Beach, FL - June 2004

Chad is my favorite person.  The Lord has blessed me so much by bringing Chad into my life.  I can't imagine my life without him.  He challenges me to be a better person.  Leads our family confidently under the Lord's guidance. Encourages me in my walk with the Lord.  Works so hard to protect our country and provide for our family.  He can bring a smile to my face and a smile to my heart like no one else.
On some level we get used to not spending special days together, but I think that forces us to make the times we do have together even more special.  I don't get caught up with days on a calendar.

Chad - I love you!  I'm so glad the rest of my life started with you!

Strength

Blogs are interesting.  Some share decorating ideas, some political philosophy, some day to day happenings and many more pictures of family and friends.  We keep everyone updated on the fun events and happy occasions of our everyday lives.  While some people take it a bit to far, I think most of us are not always so quick to share those not so happy moments though...  The moments that we fail completely as a parent.  The moments that we are to busy to stop and help.  The moments we sit in silence and wonder why.  The moments when life is just flat out hard.  In a few weeks I will watch my husband go off to war.   In a few weeks I will have to help a little 3 year old mind grasp how long a year is and how far away daddy will be.   I just found out this morning that my aunt passed away.   Next week the list of names I know on headstones at Arlington will get a little bit longer.  I ache for my friends whose husbands won'...

Change of Command

Here are a few pictures from Chad's Change of Command Ceremony. I hope to get more pictures from the official photographer that day. I didn't get any pictures of myself and my White House Black Market dress! :) The Food... Chad and I aren't huge fans of cake, so we got a cookie cake instead from a local bakery. I wish I had taken a picture of the entire table, but I only at time for a few pictures. Everyone was pretty impressed with the spread. My mom taught me how to prepare lots and lots of food and how to make it tasty! Addison kept snagging food before the ceremony started! C-Troop Taking Command! So proud of Chad! We look forward to serving with the Outcast family!

Lake Placid

Over Columbus Day, we decided to take advantage of the time for one more family trip before the deployment. Lake Placid has been on our list of places we wanted to go and we chose to wait until the fall to enjoy seeing all the leaves changing in the Adirondacks. The leaves were a little past peak, but it was still beautiful.  To understand how much we enjoyed this trip, you have to understand how much we enjoy the Olympics.  Let's just say we are Olympic fanatics...the Atwells would understand. :)  On our way in to town, we stopped had lunch at a recommended BBQ place. That afternoon, we only had time to go to one venue before they closed for the day.  If you don't know the history, Lake Placid hosted the Winter Olympics in 1932 and 1980 and is still a site for Olympic training.  First stop - Bobsled, Combination Track   You can pay to ride down the 1932 bobsled course.  It looked fun! After the Bobsled track, we headed back to the hotel and ...
