Monroe Happenings

Thankfully no major kitchen mishaps have befallen the Monroe household this week!  We are happily back into a routine and looking forward to my parents coming in town this weekend!  Not only did my parents share their house with us for the winter, they are coming to spend spring break with us.  When so many people are going to the beach, my parents are coming to the arctic. :)  Being an FRG leader, I have meetings, luncheons, etc... during the day pretty often and it is tough to find childcare for Mya, so it works out well that my parents can come help on a week I have a lot going on.

Chad has been very busy lately!   At the end of the week, Chad has his Change of Command ceremony.  To change out of his command, right?...no!  He is taking command of another troop in addition to the one he already has! We're not sure how often one person has commanded 2 troops at the same time (especially in theater), but of course Chad is up for the job!  He won't change out of his current command until this summer.  I think he has a secret plan to keep me as an FRG leader for our entire Army career. ;) Being busy does make the time go fast for him, but he is definitely feeling the exhaustion.  R&R can't come soon enough!

We also got some great news a few weeks ago.  Chad got accepted to be a TAC at West Point!  I can't tell you how excited we are!  We have been praying for this for the past 6 years!  We love so many things about West Point: BEAUTIFUL post, tons of family activities/sporting events, rich history, close proximity to NYC and most of all - NO deployments!  Chad will spend a year after we move getting his Masters from Columbia and then 2-3 years a TAC, which is basically an advisor/mentor to a company of cadets.  I am so proud of Chad for achieving this goal!  There is one small hurdle - Chad has to take the GRE again over R&R...exactly what everyone wants to do on their second day of R&R, right??  All he has to do is raise his Language score 10 points.  We would appreciate your prayers for this.  I know he can do it.  Studying in the midst of commanding 2 troops at war, flying everyday and on little sleep isn't ideal.  Once we get that score in hand, it will ease a lot of pressure on him.

With the weather getting warmer (and by that I mean 40's...) I hope to get the girls outside for some pictures soon.  It is supposed to snow tomorrow though, so we'll see...

Change of Command

Here are a few pictures from Chad's Change of Command Ceremony. I hope to get more pictures from the official photographer that day. I didn't get any pictures of myself and my White House Black Market dress! :) The Food... Chad and I aren't huge fans of cake, so we got a cookie cake instead from a local bakery. I wish I had taken a picture of the entire table, but I only at time for a few pictures. Everyone was pretty impressed with the spread. My mom taught me how to prepare lots and lots of food and how to make it tasty! Addison kept snagging food before the ceremony started! C-Troop Taking Command! So proud of Chad! We look forward to serving with the Outcast family!

Lake Placid

Over Columbus Day, we decided to take advantage of the time for one more family trip before the deployment. Lake Placid has been on our list of places we wanted to go and we chose to wait until the fall to enjoy seeing all the leaves changing in the Adirondacks. The leaves were a little past peak, but it was still beautiful.  To understand how much we enjoyed this trip, you have to understand how much we enjoy the Olympics.  Let's just say we are Olympic fanatics...the Atwells would understand. :)  On our way in to town, we stopped had lunch at a recommended BBQ place. That afternoon, we only had time to go to one venue before they closed for the day.  If you don't know the history, Lake Placid hosted the Winter Olympics in 1932 and 1980 and is still a site for Olympic training.  First stop - Bobsled, Combination Track   You can pay to ride down the 1932 bobsled course.  It looked fun!
