November update

I have been doing a poor job at updating the old blog.  I am going to follow my friend Regan's lead and give you some bullet updates on the Monroes for now.  Ever since Chad has been home, some how spending time with his is more appealing than sitting down at the computer to blog.  Also Pinterest has been stealing most of the computer time I do get!  If you haven't been on Pinterest, check it out!

1. Chad has a four day weekend for Veterans day and we have used it to do things around the house. We both have become pretty big fans of Pinterest and have been trying to actually do some of the craft/DIY ideas.  On Friday many restaurants offered free meals for veterans, so we took advantage of that and went out to dinner with some friends.  On Saturday we had another friend over and then her and I went to a Scentsy show at a friend's house.  We also pulled the Christmas decorations out.  I normally don't decorate before Thanksgiving, but since we'll be out of town so much, I wanted time to actually enjoy the decor.  We are going to put up the tree tonight.  Mya cracked us up....I put out some decorations during her nap and when she got up she was so excited.  She went up to all the taller decorations (snowmen, nutcracker) and enthusiastically said, "HI!!!"

2. A few of my friends have started craft groups and I thought it would be a fun thing to do here.  We met last Monday to talk about what crafts we would do.  While it originally started out to be a monthly group, so far it has turned into a weekly group.  For our first project, we bit off a huge project of making shelves out of pallets.  My husband has turned into our Ty Pennington and has been cutting and nailing the shelves together this weekend.  We are going to get together today to stain them.  We have the next few projects planned, but hopefully after the first of the year we'll pick some simpler ideas!  It is always fun to get together with friends though!

3. We are very excited for Friday - we leave for Disney World!!  My parents, my brother, my sister-in-law and my niece will meet us there on Saturday.  We cannot wait.  We're huge Disney fans and the chance to go with family is icing on the cake. The weather looks like highs in the upper 70's, lows in the 60's.  Considering the heat index was over 100 everyday we were there last time, I cannot tell you how great that weather sounds.  On Thanksgiving Day we fly from Orlando back to Atlanta for Thanksgiving dinner with Chad's family that evening.  On Friday we will have Thanksgiving dinner with my family and decorate my parents' Christmas tree.  Then we will fly home on Saturday.  Very busy, but very fun schedule.  The only major bummer is no after Thanksgiving shopping, which is a hard and fast tradition with me, my mom and my grandmother.  Some how I think my mom and I will still find a way to make some purchases on Friday!

4. We're still working on getting into a normal rhythm since Chad has been home.  He is on half-day schedules, which allows the girls and I to get some of our "normal" chores done in the morning.  Addison is still enjoying school in the afternoon.  We doing work 4 days a week.  She is now reading 3 and 4 letter words, has learned 11 memory verses and has learned the days of the week and months of the year!  I can't tell you how exciting it is to teach your child and watch them learn.  I love having her home with us and love the flexibility of doing school on our schedule.

That's it for now.  We will definitely have LOTS of pictures to share after our trip to Disney and time with family!

  1. Love the bullets - might end up being my new strategy for blogging! Totally agree on Pinterest. I took a break from it for a few weeks and just got back on last week. Love and hate it all at the same time. Can't wait to see what you create with your craft group! You are certainly more ambitious than we are. Go, Stephanie!

Curriculum Review 2017-18

Curriculum Review 2017-18 I believe I started last year's post by saying "This was the most difficult school year to date." While overall it was a good year, it was different kind of difficult.  A deployment and chronic mastitis were replaced with starting a new Co-Op and writing a book.   While I don't know that I would recommend writing a book in 10 months while homeschooling, during one of the busiest seasons of your husband's job, I am thankful for the year we had.  The past year brought more personal growth for me than any other year.  Homeschooling truly is a refining fire and I am thankful for the lessons we all learn in the process.   Here’s a roundup of what we used this year and how it worked for us: Addison – 5 th  Grade Bible, History, Literature, Geography & Writing – Tapestry of Grace, Year 2, Dialectic...

Blogs are interesting.  Some share decorating ideas, some political philosophy, some day to day happenings and many more pictures of family and friends.  We keep everyone updated on the fun events and happy occasions of our everyday lives.  While some people take it a bit to far, I think most of us are not always so quick to share those not so happy moments though...  The moments that we fail completely as a parent.  The moments that we are to busy to stop and help.  The moments we sit in silence and wonder why.  The moments when life is just flat out hard.  In a few weeks I will watch my husband go off to war.   In a few weeks I will have to help a little 3 year old mind grasp how long a year is and how far away daddy will be.   I just found out this morning that my aunt passed away.   Next week the list of names I know on headstones at Arlington will get a little bit longer.  I ache for my friends whose husbands won'...
