Lucy's 1st Birthday!

3rd kid - I got it.  Her birthday was almost 2 months ago.  Moving on...

For Lucy's first birthday we happened to be at the beach with my family.  Not a bad place to spend your birthday!

The party was not a Pinterest spectacular.  It was a run to Publix, open a few present, then head out for your cousins to ride go-carts.

Here are some things she has accomplished in her first year:
- has been to 16 states
- has been on 11 airplanes
- Six Flags twice
- Disney World once
- been to The Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic
- visited The Mall of America
- has been to New York City multiple times, Boston,  and Washington D.C.
-5 college football games
-The Statue of Liberty
- Been on the Today Show
- 5 road trips
-Concerts at Trophy Point, parades, Top of the Rock, Dinner with Cinederella, ski trip and pool time

Whew!  Poor kid won't remember any of it!

Weight: I think 15lbs. I really shouldn't write this post until I know that, right?

- Her 2 bottom front teeth came in together about 3 weeks ago.

- Eats everything we eat

- We had to stop nursing 2 weeks ago unexpectedly.  I was diagnosed with Lymes disease and needed to start Doxycycline right away.  Long story.

-Loves when we read books

-eyes are still blue

-She started crawling right before her first birthday.  She is right on track with where Mya was.  Now (at almost 14 months) she is crawling like a pro, starting to cruise and can almost stand up by herself from sitting.

-Preferred sleeping schedule - going to bed at 7:30 and getting up around 8.  Rarely does that ever happen given our summer schedule though.

- We are at an awkward stage with naps.  If she sleeps until 8 or 8:30, she isn't ready for a morning nap, but she gets really cranky around lunch time.  If she takes a morning nap though, she has a hard time going back down for an afternoon nap.  If I want her to take a morning nap, I need to wake her up around 7, but I had waking babies in the morning.

-Size 4 diapers

-Size 6-9 month clothes.

-still likes traveling in the Ergo, but prefers to ride on my back now.

-Her hair is so long a binder or bow is not really optional anymore.

-She is still such a sweet girl, but is definitely starting to show her temper, especially when she is tired.

Strength

Blogs are interesting.  Some share decorating ideas, some political philosophy, some day to day happenings and many more pictures of family and friends.  We keep everyone updated on the fun events and happy occasions of our everyday lives.  While some people take it a bit to far, I think most of us are not always so quick to share those not so happy moments though...  The moments that we fail completely as a parent.  The moments that we are to busy to stop and help.  The moments we sit in silence and wonder why.  The moments when life is just flat out hard.  In a few weeks I will watch my husband go off to war.   In a few weeks I will have to help a little 3 year old mind grasp how long a year is and how far away daddy will be.   I just found out this morning that my aunt passed away.   Next week the list of names I know on headstones at Arlington will get a little bit longer.  I ache for my friends whose husbands won'...

Change of Command

Here are a few pictures from Chad's Change of Command Ceremony. I hope to get more pictures from the official photographer that day. I didn't get any pictures of myself and my White House Black Market dress! :) The Food... Chad and I aren't huge fans of cake, so we got a cookie cake instead from a local bakery. I wish I had taken a picture of the entire table, but I only at time for a few pictures. Everyone was pretty impressed with the spread. My mom taught me how to prepare lots and lots of food and how to make it tasty! Addison kept snagging food before the ceremony started! C-Troop Taking Command! So proud of Chad! We look forward to serving with the Outcast family!

Lake Placid

Over Columbus Day, we decided to take advantage of the time for one more family trip before the deployment. Lake Placid has been on our list of places we wanted to go and we chose to wait until the fall to enjoy seeing all the leaves changing in the Adirondacks. The leaves were a little past peak, but it was still beautiful.  To understand how much we enjoyed this trip, you have to understand how much we enjoy the Olympics.  Let's just say we are Olympic fanatics...the Atwells would understand. :)  On our way in to town, we stopped had lunch at a recommended BBQ place. That afternoon, we only had time to go to one venue before they closed for the day.  If you don't know the history, Lake Placid hosted the Winter Olympics in 1932 and 1980 and is still a site for Olympic training.  First stop - Bobsled, Combination Track   You can pay to ride down the 1932 bobsled course.  It looked fun! After the Bobsled track, we headed back to the hotel and ...
