Lucy - 16 1/2 months

Doesn't everyone mark the milestone of 16 1/2 months?   I have obviously failed at monthly updates, but I felt it was time to record how little Lucy is doing.

We are constantly asked - is she walking?  And our answer is always "No, not yet."  For months - the same answer.  The kid started crawling at a year though, give her time.

In the past few weeks she has made some real progress!  She has started standing up on her own, cruising around more than crawling and has actually taken 4-5 steps at a time.  Now it is just a matter of time before she takes off!

Weight: About 17lbs.

- She cut her top two teeth about a month ago and just this week her bottom 2 molars cut through.

- Eats everything we eat.  With her teeth she is able to start biting things on her own, like bananas and toast. Favorites - oatmeal, quinoa, bananas, cheese, soup, applesauce, raw broccoli and eggs - really most things.  She has decided to not eat black beans all of a sudden.

-Hands down her favorite thing to eat are apples.  Whole apples.  We say its like giving a dog a bone - something to eat and something to keep her entertained.  She can't bite the skin, but once the skin is off, she can eat an entire apple.  She carries them around and even crawls with them. Its quite the sight.

- When we stopped nursing so abruptly, I gave her a bottle to ease the transition.  Well, this month I was sick of washing bottles.  Going to a sippy cup was almost as hard as weaning.  I think we have finally made the transition though.

-Loves when we read books

-eyes are still blue

-has started waking up earlier - like 6:45 or 7.

- Has basically given up the morning nap.  She would love to nap from 11-2, but I refuse to serve lunch twice, so she now naps from about 1-4.  I try to get lunch earlier, but its a mental block in my life.

-Words: Mommy (everyone and everything is Mommy), Dada - only when he's not around to hear it and she is looking for him, puppy, Yayya for Mya (although she calls Addiosn Yayya too).

-Size 5 diapers because when you order mass quantities from Amazon, you want to make sure she can wear them all.  They are pretty big on her.

-Mostly 9 or 12 month clothes.  She can still wear some 6 months, but due to weather change, its mostly 12 month.

-still likes traveling in the Ergo on my back

- loves to dance with her sisters

-loves gum and will search out my purse to find some

Favorite toys - putting blocks in buckets and the play kitchen

- Still rear facing in the car seat.  Longest I have ever kept a child rear facing I think.

-Went through about a 2 month period of seperation anxiety.  Screaming whenever I dropped her off at the nursery or put her down really.  It think it coincided with her two top teeth coming in as well.  Thankfully I think we are beginning to move out of that stage.

-Such a sweet, fun loving little girl!!

Strength

Blogs are interesting.  Some share decorating ideas, some political philosophy, some day to day happenings and many more pictures of family and friends.  We keep everyone updated on the fun events and happy occasions of our everyday lives.  While some people take it a bit to far, I think most of us are not always so quick to share those not so happy moments though...  The moments that we fail completely as a parent.  The moments that we are to busy to stop and help.  The moments we sit in silence and wonder why.  The moments when life is just flat out hard.  In a few weeks I will watch my husband go off to war.   In a few weeks I will have to help a little 3 year old mind grasp how long a year is and how far away daddy will be.   I just found out this morning that my aunt passed away.   Next week the list of names I know on headstones at Arlington will get a little bit longer.  I ache for my friends whose husbands won'...

Change of Command

Here are a few pictures from Chad's Change of Command Ceremony. I hope to get more pictures from the official photographer that day. I didn't get any pictures of myself and my White House Black Market dress! :) The Food... Chad and I aren't huge fans of cake, so we got a cookie cake instead from a local bakery. I wish I had taken a picture of the entire table, but I only at time for a few pictures. Everyone was pretty impressed with the spread. My mom taught me how to prepare lots and lots of food and how to make it tasty! Addison kept snagging food before the ceremony started! C-Troop Taking Command! So proud of Chad! We look forward to serving with the Outcast family!

Lake Placid

Over Columbus Day, we decided to take advantage of the time for one more family trip before the deployment. Lake Placid has been on our list of places we wanted to go and we chose to wait until the fall to enjoy seeing all the leaves changing in the Adirondacks. The leaves were a little past peak, but it was still beautiful.  To understand how much we enjoyed this trip, you have to understand how much we enjoy the Olympics.  Let's just say we are Olympic fanatics...the Atwells would understand. :)  On our way in to town, we stopped had lunch at a recommended BBQ place. That afternoon, we only had time to go to one venue before they closed for the day.  If you don't know the history, Lake Placid hosted the Winter Olympics in 1932 and 1980 and is still a site for Olympic training.  First stop - Bobsled, Combination Track   You can pay to ride down the 1932 bobsled course.  It looked fun! After the Bobsled track, we headed back to the hotel and ...
