Stuff, Stuff and more Stuff

It is quite the experience to watch all of your belongings get packed up to move across the country! I am so very thankful that the Army takes care of all the packing and moving for us. There is no way I would want to do all this packing myself...no matter how much the Army would pay me to do it!!
This move is a little different because we are going somewhere we've never been before and we don't know how long it will take us to find somewhere to live once we get there. Going from Alabama to New York with stops in Georgia and Colorado in between means lots of different types of clothes and plenty of toys and DVDs to keep Addison busy on the way. Originally we were going to pull a small trailer to make sure we could carry everything we would need, but since Chad broke his elbow, we didn't think him driving with one arm, hauling a trailer all the way to New York was the best option! It will be interesting to see if we can get everything in our cars!!
We are praying it doesn't take too long to find a house in New York, but we are discouraged each day as we look online at the available rentals in the area. Chad is ADDICTED to AHRN and other websites that have housing information. Some of the houses we have found are hilarious. Like this one...

Apparently the owners loved the look and feels of wood!!

Or this one...

Don't think those stairs are kid friendly!

It will be interesting to see how the Lord provides for us. Until then we will be in temporary mode...living out of suitcases and eating out way too much!

Strength

Blogs are interesting.  Some share decorating ideas, some political philosophy, some day to day happenings and many more pictures of family and friends.  We keep everyone updated on the fun events and happy occasions of our everyday lives.  While some people take it a bit to far, I think most of us are not always so quick to share those not so happy moments though...  The moments that we fail completely as a parent.  The moments that we are to busy to stop and help.  The moments we sit in silence and wonder why.  The moments when life is just flat out hard.  In a few weeks I will watch my husband go off to war.   In a few weeks I will have to help a little 3 year old mind grasp how long a year is and how far away daddy will be.   I just found out this morning that my aunt passed away.   Next week the list of names I know on headstones at Arlington will get a little bit longer.  I ache for my friends whose husbands won'...

Change of Command

Here are a few pictures from Chad's Change of Command Ceremony. I hope to get more pictures from the official photographer that day. I didn't get any pictures of myself and my White House Black Market dress! :) The Food... Chad and I aren't huge fans of cake, so we got a cookie cake instead from a local bakery. I wish I had taken a picture of the entire table, but I only at time for a few pictures. Everyone was pretty impressed with the spread. My mom taught me how to prepare lots and lots of food and how to make it tasty! Addison kept snagging food before the ceremony started! C-Troop Taking Command! So proud of Chad! We look forward to serving with the Outcast family!

Lake Placid

Over Columbus Day, we decided to take advantage of the time for one more family trip before the deployment. Lake Placid has been on our list of places we wanted to go and we chose to wait until the fall to enjoy seeing all the leaves changing in the Adirondacks. The leaves were a little past peak, but it was still beautiful.  To understand how much we enjoyed this trip, you have to understand how much we enjoy the Olympics.  Let's just say we are Olympic fanatics...the Atwells would understand. :)  On our way in to town, we stopped had lunch at a recommended BBQ place. That afternoon, we only had time to go to one venue before they closed for the day.  If you don't know the history, Lake Placid hosted the Winter Olympics in 1932 and 1980 and is still a site for Olympic training.  First stop - Bobsled, Combination Track   You can pay to ride down the 1932 bobsled course.  It looked fun! After the Bobsled track, we headed back to the hotel and ...
