Slowly Getting Settled

I'm not sure what other people's standards are for moving in and getting settled, but I feel like it is taking us SO long! I keep reminding myself that we have only been in the house 10 days! All the boxes are unpacked and my car is in the garage, so I guess that is progress. Chad's car would be in the garage too except for the 2 trash cans currently taking up too much space. As soon as our grass is put in, we can move those outside.
We spent a good bit of the weekend shopping for odds and ends. Every house is different and we always need something to get settled, but this time we are adjusting to a new house, bad movers and new furniture. For example, this house has 16 windows! Our last house came with curtain rods and I only needed 4 curtain rods in Clarksville, so I have a little bit of work to do for window treatments. Thankfully Chad's mom is going to help me out by making some curtains! Also, the movers broke more stuff than ever before, so we are now shopping for a new kitchen table and probably 2 new bookcases if we don't find the hardware they lost. Chad and I also got new bedroom furniture before we moved, so I am working on decor for our room.
Here are a few pictures of our progress...

Front porch complete with new hanging baskets
What's hilarious about this picture to me is that is was taken at 8:30 PM...even though it looks like the middle of the afternoon and I was wearing pants and a sweatshirt while taking it! I do NOT miss the 108 heat index my friends in GA and AL are feeling!!
As I mentioned, we are still waiting on our grass. We do have a fence but its not doing us a lot of good without the grass though.
This is the only room of the house that is totally finished - the foyer!

The other rooms are close, just waiting to get stuff on the walls. I picked up several paint sample sheets at Home Depot yesterday. I realize that painting to some people in our situation would be considered a waste, but I LOVE a nicely painted wall.

This was Addison's room in Clarksville. I LOVED this wall. Chad frowns every time I mention attempting it again for Mya's room though.
I have decided to paint our half bath gray. I will admit I am an HGTV junkie and every time they paint a room gray, I am so jealous. When Chad was at West Point, the family I stayed with when I would visit, the Reads, had "Go Army, Beat Navy" half bath decor and we always thought it was cool. So that is the theme we are going with in there.

I am totally stumped as far as colors for the rest of the house though. Maybe I'll post some pics and get some opinions. No, I am not going to paint every wall in the house, but a few would be nice.

Strength

Blogs are interesting.  Some share decorating ideas, some political philosophy, some day to day happenings and many more pictures of family and friends.  We keep everyone updated on the fun events and happy occasions of our everyday lives.  While some people take it a bit to far, I think most of us are not always so quick to share those not so happy moments though...  The moments that we fail completely as a parent.  The moments that we are to busy to stop and help.  The moments we sit in silence and wonder why.  The moments when life is just flat out hard.  In a few weeks I will watch my husband go off to war.   In a few weeks I will have to help a little 3 year old mind grasp how long a year is and how far away daddy will be.   I just found out this morning that my aunt passed away.   Next week the list of names I know on headstones at Arlington will get a little bit longer.  I ache for my friends whose husbands won'...

Change of Command

Here are a few pictures from Chad's Change of Command Ceremony. I hope to get more pictures from the official photographer that day. I didn't get any pictures of myself and my White House Black Market dress! :) The Food... Chad and I aren't huge fans of cake, so we got a cookie cake instead from a local bakery. I wish I had taken a picture of the entire table, but I only at time for a few pictures. Everyone was pretty impressed with the spread. My mom taught me how to prepare lots and lots of food and how to make it tasty! Addison kept snagging food before the ceremony started! C-Troop Taking Command! So proud of Chad! We look forward to serving with the Outcast family!

Lake Placid

Over Columbus Day, we decided to take advantage of the time for one more family trip before the deployment. Lake Placid has been on our list of places we wanted to go and we chose to wait until the fall to enjoy seeing all the leaves changing in the Adirondacks. The leaves were a little past peak, but it was still beautiful.  To understand how much we enjoyed this trip, you have to understand how much we enjoy the Olympics.  Let's just say we are Olympic fanatics...the Atwells would understand. :)  On our way in to town, we stopped had lunch at a recommended BBQ place. That afternoon, we only had time to go to one venue before they closed for the day.  If you don't know the history, Lake Placid hosted the Winter Olympics in 1932 and 1980 and is still a site for Olympic training.  First stop - Bobsled, Combination Track   You can pay to ride down the 1932 bobsled course.  It looked fun! After the Bobsled track, we headed back to the hotel and ...
