West Point - Day 2/NYC

Saturday was a BEAUTIFUL day at West Point!  Chad had the opportunity to march with the alumni in the parade, but he decided to stay with us and he got to actually watch a parade!  We had to park really far away (by the Rugby field!!) so we didn't get a great spot for the parade.

Addison wanted her picture taken with EVERYTHING!
Walking through Central Area again, Chad told me about this building where they held Honor Boards.  I wish we could have gone in and seen it.
Washington Hall - notice Mya looking for her sock on the floor!
On our way to the game, Addison wanted to stop by every statue - MacArthur

So nice to watch the game live rather than hitting "refresh" on the computer to keep up with the score!

The cheerleaders were SO nice!  Addison wanted a picture with them and they brought her down on the field with them!

After the game, we headed down to NYC to visit our friends from Tennessee, Freddy T. and Susan.  It was so good to see familiar faces!  It was a little crazy at times because we have 5 kids under 4 between us, but so fun.  Addison and Jack are only a week apart in age and picked up right where they left off 2 years ago!  Our hotel was a few blocks from the Empire State Building...which was a nice site to see walking to church on Sunday morning!

We grabbed lunch and headed to a park after church.  Addison wanted her picture behind this little guy!
Addison hitching a ride in Jack's spot!  Susan is Wonder Woman!  She pushes her kiddos all over the city in this stroller.  In the past two years I have never heard Susan complain about city life, even though I know it is challenging to accomplish everyday tasks in the city.
Even though I didn't get a chance to take pictures, we were so excited to have a chance to visit the Gallery Church.  During our time in New York, we hope to visit a lot more!
Number 1 reason NOT to drive into the city - traffic!  Number 2 - it cost us $35 to park for less than 24 hours!

Strength

Blogs are interesting.  Some share decorating ideas, some political philosophy, some day to day happenings and many more pictures of family and friends.  We keep everyone updated on the fun events and happy occasions of our everyday lives.  While some people take it a bit to far, I think most of us are not always so quick to share those not so happy moments though...  The moments that we fail completely as a parent.  The moments that we are to busy to stop and help.  The moments we sit in silence and wonder why.  The moments when life is just flat out hard.  In a few weeks I will watch my husband go off to war.   In a few weeks I will have to help a little 3 year old mind grasp how long a year is and how far away daddy will be.   I just found out this morning that my aunt passed away.   Next week the list of names I know on headstones at Arlington will get a little bit longer.  I ache for my friends whose husbands won'...

Change of Command

Here are a few pictures from Chad's Change of Command Ceremony. I hope to get more pictures from the official photographer that day. I didn't get any pictures of myself and my White House Black Market dress! :) The Food... Chad and I aren't huge fans of cake, so we got a cookie cake instead from a local bakery. I wish I had taken a picture of the entire table, but I only at time for a few pictures. Everyone was pretty impressed with the spread. My mom taught me how to prepare lots and lots of food and how to make it tasty! Addison kept snagging food before the ceremony started! C-Troop Taking Command! So proud of Chad! We look forward to serving with the Outcast family!

Lake Placid

Over Columbus Day, we decided to take advantage of the time for one more family trip before the deployment. Lake Placid has been on our list of places we wanted to go and we chose to wait until the fall to enjoy seeing all the leaves changing in the Adirondacks. The leaves were a little past peak, but it was still beautiful.  To understand how much we enjoyed this trip, you have to understand how much we enjoy the Olympics.  Let's just say we are Olympic fanatics...the Atwells would understand. :)  On our way in to town, we stopped had lunch at a recommended BBQ place. That afternoon, we only had time to go to one venue before they closed for the day.  If you don't know the history, Lake Placid hosted the Winter Olympics in 1932 and 1980 and is still a site for Olympic training.  First stop - Bobsled, Combination Track   You can pay to ride down the 1932 bobsled course.  It looked fun! After the Bobsled track, we headed back to the hotel and ...
