Christmas & trip to GA

We left for GA on December 18th.  Chad had class in the city, so the girls and I headed down to pick him up and be on our way.

If you hate touristy things in NYC...just skip this section!  We try not to be crazy tourist, but we don't know the city well enough to always know where to go other than touristy places.  We had to stop and get a picture in front of the tree.  It was wet and cold!  Not the kind of weather to hang out and do much of anything.  After a few pictures, we headed to Bill's Burgers on 51st.  The burgers were really good and the milkshakes looked fantastic...maybe next time.

We stopped in New Jersey for the night and headed to Raleigh to Chad's grandparents the next day.  The girls absolutely love going to their house.  They have a little dog, Missy, that the girls keep busy during their visit!  We kept telling Mya we were going to Daddy's grandma's house; when we got out she looked at Grandma Monroe and said, "You're not the real Grandma! You're pretend Grandma!"  I guess she was expecting Chad's mom!

Again, I am terrible about taking pictures... I hardly have any pictures and most of them are just of my kids!

Stockings are definitely not an after thought at my parents house...they aren't even big enough to hold everything!

Christmas round 5 at Grandmom's house

After Grandmom's we went back to Chad's parents for a little while.  Lots of family, lots of fun.  We are blessed!

December 30th - our sweet girl turned 3!

New Years Eve at Nana and Papas - We set a timer at 9:30 and let Addison countdown the "New Year."  We got a little crazy - flavored sparkling water, no sugar, no carbs. ;)
Unfortunately Chad was sick and spent the day in bed...so we weren't really together on New Years again.  That's ok.  One floor away is better than an ocean or two.

Play-dough time at Grandma's

These deer came right behind my parents' house almost every morning we were there.  Good thing for them none of us hunt!

Our sweet Addison turned 6!  I was so glad she wanted to go out for Mexican on her birthday! :)

  1. Ok, I love how you call NYC "the city." I need to start saying that! :) And, I love your hat! So cute! If you're going to freeze your tail off in the winter, might as well look cute, right?

Strength

Blogs are interesting.  Some share decorating ideas, some political philosophy, some day to day happenings and many more pictures of family and friends.  We keep everyone updated on the fun events and happy occasions of our everyday lives.  While some people take it a bit to far, I think most of us are not always so quick to share those not so happy moments though...  The moments that we fail completely as a parent.  The moments that we are to busy to stop and help.  The moments we sit in silence and wonder why.  The moments when life is just flat out hard.  In a few weeks I will watch my husband go off to war.   In a few weeks I will have to help a little 3 year old mind grasp how long a year is and how far away daddy will be.   I just found out this morning that my aunt passed away.   Next week the list of names I know on headstones at Arlington will get a little bit longer.  I ache for my friends whose husbands won'...

Change of Command

Here are a few pictures from Chad's Change of Command Ceremony. I hope to get more pictures from the official photographer that day. I didn't get any pictures of myself and my White House Black Market dress! :) The Food... Chad and I aren't huge fans of cake, so we got a cookie cake instead from a local bakery. I wish I had taken a picture of the entire table, but I only at time for a few pictures. Everyone was pretty impressed with the spread. My mom taught me how to prepare lots and lots of food and how to make it tasty! Addison kept snagging food before the ceremony started! C-Troop Taking Command! So proud of Chad! We look forward to serving with the Outcast family!

Lake Placid

Over Columbus Day, we decided to take advantage of the time for one more family trip before the deployment. Lake Placid has been on our list of places we wanted to go and we chose to wait until the fall to enjoy seeing all the leaves changing in the Adirondacks. The leaves were a little past peak, but it was still beautiful.  To understand how much we enjoyed this trip, you have to understand how much we enjoy the Olympics.  Let's just say we are Olympic fanatics...the Atwells would understand. :)  On our way in to town, we stopped had lunch at a recommended BBQ place. That afternoon, we only had time to go to one venue before they closed for the day.  If you don't know the history, Lake Placid hosted the Winter Olympics in 1932 and 1980 and is still a site for Olympic training.  First stop - Bobsled, Combination Track   You can pay to ride down the 1932 bobsled course.  It looked fun! After the Bobsled track, we headed back to the hotel and ...
