gymnastics and 4th of July

Mya was excited to start gymnastics this spring.  I put her in an 8 week class to see how she would like it.  Like her big sister, she loved it!  We seem to be a gymnastics household!  Mya and Addison share a love for gymnastics...but also share a habit of socializing a little too much during class sometimes. :) Mya was very excited that our neighbor Dani was in her class.

Addison was the photographer during Mya's class, so excuse the quality of the photos!

Last class before summer!

Unfortunately I rarely ever remember to take pictures of Addison during gymnastics.  The last class before summer, I managed to remember my camera!

While the girls were gone, we went to the Melting Pot for our anniversary.  We just love the Melting Pot!!

Over the July 4th week, I wanted to make a little bit healthier dessert, so I tried frozen yogurt.  This was SOOO Yummy!!  Not perfectly healthy, but better than somethings you could have!

  • 1 lb fresh strawberries
  • 2 1/2 cups plain 2% Chobani Greek yogurt
  • 2/3 cup light agave nectar
Directions
  • Puree strawberries in a food processor until well pureed and strawberries pieces no longer remain, scraping down sides once during processing. Add plain Greek yogurt and agave nectar to strawberry puree and whisk mixture until well blended. Cover bowl with plastic wrap and freeze 30 - 40 minutes, stirring once during chilling, then transfer mixture to an ice cream maker and process mixture according to manufactures directions. Enjoy soft or transfer to an airtight container and freeze until semi-firm (or firm and allow to thaw slightly at room temperature before enjoying).

The girls gave it 2 thumbs up!

How they have spent most of their summer - it has been so hot here!

The Saturday after the 4th of July is always when West Point hosts its band concert and fireworks.  Earlier in the day though, we went to our good friend Kris' promotion ceremony.  We love the Perrin family and were so glad we could be here for Kris' promotion.

She is getting so big!

Hanging out with McNeals

So many times we have to watch our kids say good-bye to friends as we move.  It is nice to be able to say hello to old friends when the Army brings us back together!

  1. I need a food processor!!! That frozen yogurt looks amazing! Could you use fat free Chobani or does it have to be the 2% kind? PS -- I love seeing the Monroe and McNeal kiddos together! Such sweet girls!

Strength

Blogs are interesting.  Some share decorating ideas, some political philosophy, some day to day happenings and many more pictures of family and friends.  We keep everyone updated on the fun events and happy occasions of our everyday lives.  While some people take it a bit to far, I think most of us are not always so quick to share those not so happy moments though...  The moments that we fail completely as a parent.  The moments that we are to busy to stop and help.  The moments we sit in silence and wonder why.  The moments when life is just flat out hard.  In a few weeks I will watch my husband go off to war.   In a few weeks I will have to help a little 3 year old mind grasp how long a year is and how far away daddy will be.   I just found out this morning that my aunt passed away.   Next week the list of names I know on headstones at Arlington will get a little bit longer.  I ache for my friends whose husbands won'...

Change of Command

Here are a few pictures from Chad's Change of Command Ceremony. I hope to get more pictures from the official photographer that day. I didn't get any pictures of myself and my White House Black Market dress! :) The Food... Chad and I aren't huge fans of cake, so we got a cookie cake instead from a local bakery. I wish I had taken a picture of the entire table, but I only at time for a few pictures. Everyone was pretty impressed with the spread. My mom taught me how to prepare lots and lots of food and how to make it tasty! Addison kept snagging food before the ceremony started! C-Troop Taking Command! So proud of Chad! We look forward to serving with the Outcast family!

Lake Placid

Over Columbus Day, we decided to take advantage of the time for one more family trip before the deployment. Lake Placid has been on our list of places we wanted to go and we chose to wait until the fall to enjoy seeing all the leaves changing in the Adirondacks. The leaves were a little past peak, but it was still beautiful.  To understand how much we enjoyed this trip, you have to understand how much we enjoy the Olympics.  Let's just say we are Olympic fanatics...the Atwells would understand. :)  On our way in to town, we stopped had lunch at a recommended BBQ place. That afternoon, we only had time to go to one venue before they closed for the day.  If you don't know the history, Lake Placid hosted the Winter Olympics in 1932 and 1980 and is still a site for Olympic training.  First stop - Bobsled, Combination Track   You can pay to ride down the 1932 bobsled course.  It looked fun! After the Bobsled track, we headed back to the hotel and ...
