Lucy - 1 month (and a few days)

Its 10:40 - the time of night I KNOW I should be in the bed, but I will have to get up in about half an hour to feed Lucy.  I either need to get in the bed at nine or its just not worth it. This week with VBS, its is 9 before we even get home!  My girls are sleeping in in the mornings though, so at least that is nice.

Moving on - Lucy is 5 weeks old!  Crazy!  How true are the words:
"The days are long, but the years fly by!"

I really enjoy the newborn stage - I love the snuggling and helplessness of little ones.  I do not however, enjoy the lack of sleep.  At all.  Especially on top of recovering from surgery. Addison dropped her middle of the night feeding at 7 weeks and I am hoping Lucy follows her big sister!  I love looking at those sweet blue eyes, but not at 3 AM anymore.

Here is what Lucy is up to...

- I have no idea how much she weighs.  People ALWAYS ask me how much she weighs.  I am just curious - do people have baby scales in their house? My guess is that she is between 7 and 8 lbs, but again I don't know.

- We are still using newborn diapers, but since I just opened the last pack, I probably won't buy anymore.

-She is finally fitting into newborn clothes pretty well.

-She is on a solid 3 hour schedule (8, 11, 2, 5, 8, 11).  We sometimes have to wake her up, but she wakes up very easily.  Thankfully, she rarely wakes up on her own, screaming to eat.

-She is a noisy little girl!  Lots of grunts, squeaks and groans!

-If I stay up to feed her at 11PM, she normally wakes up on her own around 3 and will then sleep until morning.  If she wakes up around 6, we put her in the bed with us and she will go back to sleep until 7:30 or 8:00.  I am on my own most nights since I try to let Chad sleep if he is here since he is back at work.

-She is similar to Mya in that we really haven't had to do much sleep training.  She is pretty good about going to sleep on her own and we are doing better at putting her down for naps while she is still awake. Thankfully she is flexible and will generally sleep anywhere.

-The girls absolutely love her.  They love helping and holding her.  If she cries, they both rush to see what they can do for her.

-She finally fits into the swaddle blankets!  Those were a lifesaver we discovered with Mya, but when Lucy came home, she was too tiny for them to work!

-Her eyes are still blue!  Since Addison and Mya's eyes were brown when they were born, I'm not really sure when Lucy's would change if they are going to change.  I hope they don't change!  They are beautiful deep blue!

Sweet Baby Lucy - we love you!!  You are SO sweet and everyone, especially Mommy, loves to hold you and cuddle you!  I can't wait to see what kind of personality you are going to develop!  You are such a perfect fit in our family and we are so blessed to have you!!

Strength

Blogs are interesting.  Some share decorating ideas, some political philosophy, some day to day happenings and many more pictures of family and friends.  We keep everyone updated on the fun events and happy occasions of our everyday lives.  While some people take it a bit to far, I think most of us are not always so quick to share those not so happy moments though...  The moments that we fail completely as a parent.  The moments that we are to busy to stop and help.  The moments we sit in silence and wonder why.  The moments when life is just flat out hard.  In a few weeks I will watch my husband go off to war.   In a few weeks I will have to help a little 3 year old mind grasp how long a year is and how far away daddy will be.   I just found out this morning that my aunt passed away.   Next week the list of names I know on headstones at Arlington will get a little bit longer.  I ache for my friends whose husbands won'...

Change of Command

Here are a few pictures from Chad's Change of Command Ceremony. I hope to get more pictures from the official photographer that day. I didn't get any pictures of myself and my White House Black Market dress! :) The Food... Chad and I aren't huge fans of cake, so we got a cookie cake instead from a local bakery. I wish I had taken a picture of the entire table, but I only at time for a few pictures. Everyone was pretty impressed with the spread. My mom taught me how to prepare lots and lots of food and how to make it tasty! Addison kept snagging food before the ceremony started! C-Troop Taking Command! So proud of Chad! We look forward to serving with the Outcast family!

Lake Placid

Over Columbus Day, we decided to take advantage of the time for one more family trip before the deployment. Lake Placid has been on our list of places we wanted to go and we chose to wait until the fall to enjoy seeing all the leaves changing in the Adirondacks. The leaves were a little past peak, but it was still beautiful.  To understand how much we enjoyed this trip, you have to understand how much we enjoy the Olympics.  Let's just say we are Olympic fanatics...the Atwells would understand. :)  On our way in to town, we stopped had lunch at a recommended BBQ place. That afternoon, we only had time to go to one venue before they closed for the day.  If you don't know the history, Lake Placid hosted the Winter Olympics in 1932 and 1980 and is still a site for Olympic training.  First stop - Bobsled, Combination Track   You can pay to ride down the 1932 bobsled course.  It looked fun! After the Bobsled track, we headed back to the hotel and ...
