Lucy 3 months

Poor 3rd kid...I missed her 2 month post.  Oh well.  Lucy you are loved, but you are the third child, so you there are many things in life you will have to learn to roll with.

The day we brought Lucy home from the NICU I remember telling Chad - 3 months.  We just need to make it to 3 months.  When you are getting very little sleep, just went through a long NICU ordeal, recovering from surgery and in the middle of a move you need a light at the end of the tunnel.  I knew at the 3 month mark, the move would be over, I would be healed and Lucy would be sleeping through the night.  Thankfully all those things have come true!!  I am not ready for her to grow up, but I am very thankful we are through the sleepless nights and c-section recovery.

What Lucy is up to:

-weighed 9lbs 9oz at her 2 month appt.

- smiling and cooing

-eyes are still blue!  Her hair is getting lighter too.

-still likes to be swaddled.

-no rolling around just yet.  Again, 3rd child.  Not a ton of mat or tummy time.

-has the dreaded cradle cap.  I am open to any suggestions.  I think poor Mya may actually still have some... ;)

-eats about every 3 1/2 hours.  We are in the stage where she could go 4 hours, but to get 5 feedings a day in, I often have to wake her up to keep us on schedule.  I tried going to 4 feedings and she wakes up at 4:30 in the morning to eat.  Hoping to go to the 4 hour schedule soon!

- goes to bed around 9:30 - I would love for it to be a little earlier, but as I mentioned in the last point, 9:00 is normally the earliest I get around to that 5th feeding.

-Sleeps until about 8:30.  I normally have to wake her up.  By 8:30 I am just ready to get our day nursing day started (to get the 5 feedings in...).  I'm sure you non-schedulers/non-Babywise folks think that sounds crazy.  But hey, my 3 month old sleeps 11 hours at night - I'm not going to rock the boat.

-Does pretty well going to sleep on her own.  She sleeps well in the carseat, Ergo, swing and her bed.  I try to get as many naps in her bed as I can for sleep training.  She fusses a little during those naps before she goes to sleep, but normally not more than 5 minutes.  Going to bed for the night is another story.  I guess she is just wiped out by the end of the day and most nights there is normally 10-15 minutes of crying before she falls asleep.

-Uses her paci sometimes.  We probably push it (ok, Chad pushes it) more than she really wants it.  Rarely ever does she use it sleeping in her bed.

-Size 1 diapers

-Size 0-3 or 3 month clothes.  New moms - there is a huge difference between newborn and 0-3 month clothes.  We have just moved out of newborn clothes.  I pulled the 3 month clothes out mainly just to get some new outfits in the mix and to get some wear out of the summer stuff before it gets cold.

-love watching her big sisters

Lucy we love watching you grow!  You are such a sweet girl and can calm my nerves after a long day of homeschooling. :) I love to sit and look at you and drink in the days you are so small.  We pray that your heart is tender toward the Lord all of your life!  We love you!!

Strength

Blogs are interesting.  Some share decorating ideas, some political philosophy, some day to day happenings and many more pictures of family and friends.  We keep everyone updated on the fun events and happy occasions of our everyday lives.  While some people take it a bit to far, I think most of us are not always so quick to share those not so happy moments though...  The moments that we fail completely as a parent.  The moments that we are to busy to stop and help.  The moments we sit in silence and wonder why.  The moments when life is just flat out hard.  In a few weeks I will watch my husband go off to war.   In a few weeks I will have to help a little 3 year old mind grasp how long a year is and how far away daddy will be.   I just found out this morning that my aunt passed away.   Next week the list of names I know on headstones at Arlington will get a little bit longer.  I ache for my friends whose husbands won'...

Change of Command

Here are a few pictures from Chad's Change of Command Ceremony. I hope to get more pictures from the official photographer that day. I didn't get any pictures of myself and my White House Black Market dress! :) The Food... Chad and I aren't huge fans of cake, so we got a cookie cake instead from a local bakery. I wish I had taken a picture of the entire table, but I only at time for a few pictures. Everyone was pretty impressed with the spread. My mom taught me how to prepare lots and lots of food and how to make it tasty! Addison kept snagging food before the ceremony started! C-Troop Taking Command! So proud of Chad! We look forward to serving with the Outcast family!

Lake Placid

Over Columbus Day, we decided to take advantage of the time for one more family trip before the deployment. Lake Placid has been on our list of places we wanted to go and we chose to wait until the fall to enjoy seeing all the leaves changing in the Adirondacks. The leaves were a little past peak, but it was still beautiful.  To understand how much we enjoyed this trip, you have to understand how much we enjoy the Olympics.  Let's just say we are Olympic fanatics...the Atwells would understand. :)  On our way in to town, we stopped had lunch at a recommended BBQ place. That afternoon, we only had time to go to one venue before they closed for the day.  If you don't know the history, Lake Placid hosted the Winter Olympics in 1932 and 1980 and is still a site for Olympic training.  First stop - Bobsled, Combination Track   You can pay to ride down the 1932 bobsled course.  It looked fun! After the Bobsled track, we headed back to the hotel and ...
