7, 4 and New Hampshire

Addison and Mya are staying busy these days - school work, gymnastics, Awana, piano, friends and playtime - I rarely hear that they are bored!

Miss Mya is quite the girly girl.  Love tutus, leggings and her shiny black boots.  She does not enjoy wearing jeans.  Ever.  Except jeggings.  Most days she enjoys doing schoolwork.  More than anything, she wants to be with Addison and therefore, wants to do school like her big sister.  On the letter of the week cirriculum, we are on the letter S.  She is excited to almost know all her letters and she thinks as soon as we get to Z, she will know how to read.

Loves gymnastics, just like her sister.  Is really ready to do a cartwheel.

LOVES her hair.  Wants it to be even longer.  We have come to the agreement though that if she can't keep it brushed, than we will cut it.

Is a pretty good eater.  Her dad sometimes buys Cherrios.  She loves nothing more than a bowl of cereal and milk.  Is very good about trying new things, but quick to let me know if she doesn't like it.

Still naps on occasion.  Always has quiet time during the day, but only falls asleep if she has had a long day.

Is the only girl in her preschool coop class and absolutely loves it.  She is like the mother hen.

LOVES going to Cubbies each week.

Is simply hilarious.  Always keeps us laughing.

Addison is growing up.  Wow.  Love watching her grow into a young lady.  I have enjoyed watching her grow in her faith.  She got her first Bible for Christmas and it is already a treasured possession. She is learning more each day about her walk with the Lord and I love seeing her learn and talking through things with her.

Her favorite part of the day is when we lay in bed with her at night.

Seems to be enjoying school.  School is certainly not a battle with her, but unlike her mother, she doesn't always get excited about it.  If socializing were a subject, it would most certainly be her favorite.  She definitely thrives on being around people.  Thankfully our schedule gives her plenty of time to do that.  She loves art and has a gift for drawing.  We are working on getting her some formal art lessons.  Her reading has improved so much in the past few weeks.

Still enjoying gymnastics.  Probably does 100 cartwheels a day - hallway, co-op, commissary, church....you name the place, she has probably done a cartwheel there.

is coming a long with her piano playing.  This is the subject I struggle the most with helping her.  Not sure why.  Thankful for her piano teacher - Danielle!  She just started using the pedal, which apparently is a big deal.  :)

Loves dance parties.  Anywhere, anytime.

Loves all things American Girl.

Has a distinct fashion sense.  Unlike Mya, most of her life, she has generally worn whatever I have laid out with no issues.  Obviously now she picks out her clothes most days.  Why do kids love to wear the same thing everyday?? Thankfully most days she's home and it doesn't really matter.

Addison proudly took home the trophy for the 3rd fastest car at the Awana Derby this year.

We had a ski week planned last year, but our girls got the flu.  Since it was the end of the season, we rescheduled for President's Day weekend.  Driving 6 hours to go skiing, when you live on a ski slope didn't sound so silly when we were going for a week.  Going for a weekend probably wasn't worth it, but we made the best of it.

The girls were excited to go skiing for the first time.  Even though we live on a ski slope, with Chad's knee surgery, he has been out of commission most of the winter.  His work schedule and our busy weeknight schedule also doesn't leave a lot of time to take them here.  Lucy and I don't ski which means we hung out in the ski lodge!  We were hoping for more than 1 day of skiing, but where we were staying, they closed the hill at 4PM (no lights).  The last morning we were there, we were hoping to get at least 1/2 on the hill, but Chad had an emergency at work and spent all night and all morning on the phone/computer.  Plus the windchill was around -25, so it was too cold to have the girls on the hill.

Game night in the condo.

Who's ready for ski school??????

Mya loved ski school!

so cute watching her on the little hill!

Chad waving to Mya between runs.

Addison in ski school!  I didn't get a lot of pictures of her in action because she was further away and it was really cold!

After ski school, it was time to go out with Daddy!

Best part of vacation - dessert!

Strength

Blogs are interesting.  Some share decorating ideas, some political philosophy, some day to day happenings and many more pictures of family and friends.  We keep everyone updated on the fun events and happy occasions of our everyday lives.  While some people take it a bit to far, I think most of us are not always so quick to share those not so happy moments though...  The moments that we fail completely as a parent.  The moments that we are to busy to stop and help.  The moments we sit in silence and wonder why.  The moments when life is just flat out hard.  In a few weeks I will watch my husband go off to war.   In a few weeks I will have to help a little 3 year old mind grasp how long a year is and how far away daddy will be.   I just found out this morning that my aunt passed away.   Next week the list of names I know on headstones at Arlington will get a little bit longer.  I ache for my friends whose husbands won'...

Change of Command

Here are a few pictures from Chad's Change of Command Ceremony. I hope to get more pictures from the official photographer that day. I didn't get any pictures of myself and my White House Black Market dress! :) The Food... Chad and I aren't huge fans of cake, so we got a cookie cake instead from a local bakery. I wish I had taken a picture of the entire table, but I only at time for a few pictures. Everyone was pretty impressed with the spread. My mom taught me how to prepare lots and lots of food and how to make it tasty! Addison kept snagging food before the ceremony started! C-Troop Taking Command! So proud of Chad! We look forward to serving with the Outcast family!

Lake Placid

Over Columbus Day, we decided to take advantage of the time for one more family trip before the deployment. Lake Placid has been on our list of places we wanted to go and we chose to wait until the fall to enjoy seeing all the leaves changing in the Adirondacks. The leaves were a little past peak, but it was still beautiful.  To understand how much we enjoyed this trip, you have to understand how much we enjoy the Olympics.  Let's just say we are Olympic fanatics...the Atwells would understand. :)  On our way in to town, we stopped had lunch at a recommended BBQ place. That afternoon, we only had time to go to one venue before they closed for the day.  If you don't know the history, Lake Placid hosted the Winter Olympics in 1932 and 1980 and is still a site for Olympic training.  First stop - Bobsled, Combination Track   You can pay to ride down the 1932 bobsled course.  It looked fun! After the Bobsled track, we headed back to the hotel and ...
