Georgia Aquarium

While Chad was back in Georgia, we had a family day and went to the Georgia Aquarium. We've wanted to go for a while, but we rarely have time to do "touristy" things while we are in GA. We enjoyed it and Addison had a great time. The only downside was all the Field Trips!! I wish that attractions had a field trip free day each week so that families could have a chance to enjoy things without lines and lines of little kids walking around and uninterested junior high students running over the little ones to get the answers on their study sheets! Moving on...

Even though they were behind glass, the jelly fish were still made me cringe a little!

Addison did not like the tunnel where you could see the fish swimming above you. She was ready to move on!
The main attraction is the world's largest single aquarium - the Ocean Voyager. The main viewing area window was very impressive!! This was a Manta Sting Ray - the biggest sting ray I've ever seen!!!
The Grouper were bigger than Addison!

The main viewing window

The Georgia Aquarium is known for the Whale Sharks...which are not actual shark, but the largest species of fish.
They had several areas to touch things in the water - sting rays, shrimp, and here she was touching starfish and sea urchins.

Little Miss Mya was so good just hanging out enjoying the ride!
I am the type of person that loves to read all the information in museums, aquariums, etc... Addison doesn't really allow me time to read everything, but I did have the chance to read about these lion fish. They are naturally only found in the Philippines, but in the past few years have been found in the Atlantic. They were apparently introduced by someone releasing them into the wild from a home aquarium. They have no natural predators in the Atlantic Ocean and are running rampant and endangering native fish. Interesting...to me at least. :)
Toward the end of the day, Addison was getting restless...more than normal! She was more interested in climbing on the exhibits than looking at the fish.
Watching the river otters at feeding time...Addison looks more interested than she really was!
One of the guides to us that the Piranhas were going to be fed soon, so we hung around to see it. More interesting facts....piranhas only eat dead things. So theoretically if you were in a river with a school of piranhas, they wouldn't bother you! To feed them, they drop a fish in and let the fish tear it up. It wasn't quite like a cartoon, but interesting nonetheless.

Overall we really enjoyed the Aquarium. We had heard a lot of mixed reviews, but for us it was a great family outing!

Strength

Blogs are interesting.  Some share decorating ideas, some political philosophy, some day to day happenings and many more pictures of family and friends.  We keep everyone updated on the fun events and happy occasions of our everyday lives.  While some people take it a bit to far, I think most of us are not always so quick to share those not so happy moments though...  The moments that we fail completely as a parent.  The moments that we are to busy to stop and help.  The moments we sit in silence and wonder why.  The moments when life is just flat out hard.  In a few weeks I will watch my husband go off to war.   In a few weeks I will have to help a little 3 year old mind grasp how long a year is and how far away daddy will be.   I just found out this morning that my aunt passed away.   Next week the list of names I know on headstones at Arlington will get a little bit longer.  I ache for my friends whose husbands won'...

Change of Command

Here are a few pictures from Chad's Change of Command Ceremony. I hope to get more pictures from the official photographer that day. I didn't get any pictures of myself and my White House Black Market dress! :) The Food... Chad and I aren't huge fans of cake, so we got a cookie cake instead from a local bakery. I wish I had taken a picture of the entire table, but I only at time for a few pictures. Everyone was pretty impressed with the spread. My mom taught me how to prepare lots and lots of food and how to make it tasty! Addison kept snagging food before the ceremony started! C-Troop Taking Command! So proud of Chad! We look forward to serving with the Outcast family!

Lake Placid

Over Columbus Day, we decided to take advantage of the time for one more family trip before the deployment. Lake Placid has been on our list of places we wanted to go and we chose to wait until the fall to enjoy seeing all the leaves changing in the Adirondacks. The leaves were a little past peak, but it was still beautiful.  To understand how much we enjoyed this trip, you have to understand how much we enjoy the Olympics.  Let's just say we are Olympic fanatics...the Atwells would understand. :)  On our way in to town, we stopped had lunch at a recommended BBQ place. That afternoon, we only had time to go to one venue before they closed for the day.  If you don't know the history, Lake Placid hosted the Winter Olympics in 1932 and 1980 and is still a site for Olympic training.  First stop - Bobsled, Combination Track   You can pay to ride down the 1932 bobsled course.  It looked fun! After the Bobsled track, we headed back to the hotel and ...
