R&R - part 3

After the wedding and the 4th of July, our time got a little more relaxing.

Hanging out with Chad's family...trying to avoid the mosquitos!

Reliving the "good old days." :)

My turn!

Addison and V - these girls are the best and worst of friends! :) The love each other, but can fight like sisters.

On Thursday, we flew home!  Even though it was only for a few days, it was nice to just be at home with our little family.

Saturday morning we went to Sackets Harbor for breakfast at Tin Pan and then walked around...notice the jackets!  Then we went to see Cars 2.  While I don't recommend taking 18 month olds to the movies, it was a good time.

After dinner one night, Addison asked if Chad would throw her a ball. (of course he didn't say no!)  Poor girl - the only bat she has is a souvenir from the Baseball Hall of Fame!  It worked though!

You can always tell when she dresses herself!

Love this picture -

"Ball!" is one of Mya's best words!

I couldn't get very good pictures, but this was a fort Chad built...he just didn't anticipate the demolitionist Mya to come along! :)

We attempted to take the training wheels off Addison's bike...

However, she proved to have NO concept of balance...as seen here.

Another one of Mya's favorite words - Cracker!

The end of R&R is always tough...no matter how long or short the remainder of the deployment may be.  Yes, it is nice that Chad only has a few months left, but that doesn't make good-bye any easier.
Thankfully our girls are champions when it comes to saying bye to people.  They never cry when they leave GA, when grandparents leave here, etc... Addison just says "see ya later" and moves on.  How I wish it were that easy for me!  She LOVES Chad and wouldn't let him go the whole trip, so I am very thankful the goodbye wasn't more emotional for her.  I wish Chad and I were as resilient!

Since the training wheels experiment didn't go so well, Chad decided we should get Addison a new bike.  The other one was getting a little small and by the time he gets back, it will almost be time for snow!  She LOVES her new bike.  I'm sure the neighbors will soon be annoyed with the constant bell ringing as well. :)

Strength

Blogs are interesting.  Some share decorating ideas, some political philosophy, some day to day happenings and many more pictures of family and friends.  We keep everyone updated on the fun events and happy occasions of our everyday lives.  While some people take it a bit to far, I think most of us are not always so quick to share those not so happy moments though...  The moments that we fail completely as a parent.  The moments that we are to busy to stop and help.  The moments we sit in silence and wonder why.  The moments when life is just flat out hard.  In a few weeks I will watch my husband go off to war.   In a few weeks I will have to help a little 3 year old mind grasp how long a year is and how far away daddy will be.   I just found out this morning that my aunt passed away.   Next week the list of names I know on headstones at Arlington will get a little bit longer.  I ache for my friends whose husbands won'...

Change of Command

Here are a few pictures from Chad's Change of Command Ceremony. I hope to get more pictures from the official photographer that day. I didn't get any pictures of myself and my White House Black Market dress! :) The Food... Chad and I aren't huge fans of cake, so we got a cookie cake instead from a local bakery. I wish I had taken a picture of the entire table, but I only at time for a few pictures. Everyone was pretty impressed with the spread. My mom taught me how to prepare lots and lots of food and how to make it tasty! Addison kept snagging food before the ceremony started! C-Troop Taking Command! So proud of Chad! We look forward to serving with the Outcast family!

Lake Placid

Over Columbus Day, we decided to take advantage of the time for one more family trip before the deployment. Lake Placid has been on our list of places we wanted to go and we chose to wait until the fall to enjoy seeing all the leaves changing in the Adirondacks. The leaves were a little past peak, but it was still beautiful.  To understand how much we enjoyed this trip, you have to understand how much we enjoy the Olympics.  Let's just say we are Olympic fanatics...the Atwells would understand. :)  On our way in to town, we stopped had lunch at a recommended BBQ place. That afternoon, we only had time to go to one venue before they closed for the day.  If you don't know the history, Lake Placid hosted the Winter Olympics in 1932 and 1980 and is still a site for Olympic training.  First stop - Bobsled, Combination Track   You can pay to ride down the 1932 bobsled course.  It looked fun! After the Bobsled track, we headed back to the hotel and ...
