Home at West Point

Well, we are officially at West Point!  We arrived back from GA last Wednesday and our stuff came on Friday.  We have been in major move-in mode ever since.  I'm not sure what the average move in time is for most people, but I feel like ours is long.  I know its only been a week, but I'm just ready to be settled.  We are headed to IKEA today and hopefully we will get the pieces we need to finish up and be completely settled this weekend.  Right now everything is done except hanging curtains/pictures downstairs and the last bit of organizing and cleaning.

One of the downsides to moving all the time is having to constantly change the layout of our house.  We're always going from double windows (here and Clarksville) to single windows (Drum) or lots of drawer space in the kitchen (Drum & Clarksville) to lots of cabinets and very little drawer space (here).  Not a big deal, but certainly requires some reorganization and planning.  This is the first time we've moved to a smaller house and we went from a large 2 car garage to no garage/carport at all.  Thankfully this house has a ton of closets and we with a little purging and a lot of squeezing, we're making it all work.  This house also has no carpet, so we have had to buy several rugs.  I try not to go too crazy with house specific things (like buying 15 area rugs) because who knows what the next house will bring.  We will more than likely move in less than a year (to a different house on West Point), so I don't want to get carried away with this house.  That has led me to decided NOT to paint this house. :(  The housing office here charges $50 for every room you paint, so we will probably not paint.  I totally reserve the right to change my mind on that though!  White walls, white trim and white doors may get the best of me!

I will share pictures soon of what we've done so far!

The girls have adjusted great and they are loving the new house.  Trying to decide which neighborhood to live in here was a big decision for us.  There were big pros and cons to each house and we finally decided on this house because of the yard.  The other house we were offered had no backyard...well, unless you consider down a cliff (and no fence) a yard.  We gave up the garage storage and cheaper house for the great backyard this house has.  In just the 7 days we've been here, we are thankful we made that decision!  Our girls LOVE running around playing in the yard and have really enjoyed the playgrounds down the street.  This is the first time we've had good grass in the backyard too! My project this weekend - plant a vegetable garden!  This is my first opportunity to do it and I am beyond excited.  I may just take over the whole yard. :)

Chad is on leave until the beginning of June, so we are looking forward to getting settled and having some time to explore NYC, Boston and the surrounding areas.

Curriculum Review 2017-18

Curriculum Review 2017-18 I believe I started last year's post by saying "This was the most difficult school year to date." While overall it was a good year, it was different kind of difficult.  A deployment and chronic mastitis were replaced with starting a new Co-Op and writing a book.   While I don't know that I would recommend writing a book in 10 months while homeschooling, during one of the busiest seasons of your husband's job, I am thankful for the year we had.  The past year brought more personal growth for me than any other year.  Homeschooling truly is a refining fire and I am thankful for the lessons we all learn in the process.   Here’s a roundup of what we used this year and how it worked for us: Addison – 5 th  Grade Bible, History, Literature, Geography & Writing – Tapestry of Grace, Year 2, Dialectic...

Strength

Blogs are interesting.  Some share decorating ideas, some political philosophy, some day to day happenings and many more pictures of family and friends.  We keep everyone updated on the fun events and happy occasions of our everyday lives.  While some people take it a bit to far, I think most of us are not always so quick to share those not so happy moments though...  The moments that we fail completely as a parent.  The moments that we are to busy to stop and help.  The moments we sit in silence and wonder why.  The moments when life is just flat out hard.  In a few weeks I will watch my husband go off to war.   In a few weeks I will have to help a little 3 year old mind grasp how long a year is and how far away daddy will be.   I just found out this morning that my aunt passed away.   Next week the list of names I know on headstones at Arlington will get a little bit longer.  I ache for my friends whose husbands won'...
