So long to Ft. Drum...

As much as we move, you would think we get used to leaving people and places... So far though it just gets harder with each move!  Ft. Drum was #2 on my list of places I never wanted to move.  (#1 is Alaska - I just don't do that cold.)  Ft. Drum was too cold, too far, too much snow.  The Lord has a sense of humor though, because the place I didn't want to go has been the hardest place to leave.  The Lord knit our hearts together with so many dear people through our unit and through our church.

Saying goodbye is one of my least favorite things, but I do like to take pictures, especially for me girls to remember people.

These are some amazing people!  During our time at New Hope I helped with all things audio/visual. Chad jumped in when he got home and while at times it felt like we should bring a cot and sleep at church, it was a pleasure to serve and we loved spending time with these folks!

Addison's Sunday School teacher - Mrs. Nina

Addison with her favorite teacher of all time - Ms. Mary.  Ms. Mary loves Jesus and it is contagious to the kids she teaches.  Addison couldn't wait to get to her class every Wednesday night!

Band/AV guys!

The Ladies...minus Pam!

The stage kids!  Anytime we practiced, these kids weren't too far away!

We so enjoyed having the Panzers right down the road!  As Colleen said, we were "insta-friends" when she moved in! The girls loved playing with Sean at unit events and each week at craft group.

Saying goodbye to our home...

I will admit, there were tears shed as I pulled out of the house for the last time.  More than just leaving a house, it is leaving a rhythm of life that you are used to, leaving "normal"and leaving memories.

The Wendts were gracious to let us stay while we cleared our house and tied up loose ends.

These kids were more like siblings than friends they were together so much! :)

Saying good-bye to the Wendt family was tough on everyone...

Chad and his buddy "Jeremy"

Alicia Wendt - I thank the Lord for this dear friend!  I know this is completely corny, but she was truly the wind beneath my wings during my time at Ft. Drum.  In addition to being a fabulous and fun friend, she watched my kids, did crazy workouts with me, cooked for us on multiple occasions, ran to the store when I was desperate and forgot ingredients, helped me learn to sew, rescued me when I was over my head in FRG responsibilities and more than anything - I knew she was always there.  I have never met a more caring and dependable person.  I could never repay the blessings she has poured into my life!

I am blessed to call her friend!

Strength

Blogs are interesting.  Some share decorating ideas, some political philosophy, some day to day happenings and many more pictures of family and friends.  We keep everyone updated on the fun events and happy occasions of our everyday lives.  While some people take it a bit to far, I think most of us are not always so quick to share those not so happy moments though...  The moments that we fail completely as a parent.  The moments that we are to busy to stop and help.  The moments we sit in silence and wonder why.  The moments when life is just flat out hard.  In a few weeks I will watch my husband go off to war.   In a few weeks I will have to help a little 3 year old mind grasp how long a year is and how far away daddy will be.   I just found out this morning that my aunt passed away.   Next week the list of names I know on headstones at Arlington will get a little bit longer.  I ache for my friends whose husbands won'...

Change of Command

Here are a few pictures from Chad's Change of Command Ceremony. I hope to get more pictures from the official photographer that day. I didn't get any pictures of myself and my White House Black Market dress! :) The Food... Chad and I aren't huge fans of cake, so we got a cookie cake instead from a local bakery. I wish I had taken a picture of the entire table, but I only at time for a few pictures. Everyone was pretty impressed with the spread. My mom taught me how to prepare lots and lots of food and how to make it tasty! Addison kept snagging food before the ceremony started! C-Troop Taking Command! So proud of Chad! We look forward to serving with the Outcast family!

Lake Placid

Over Columbus Day, we decided to take advantage of the time for one more family trip before the deployment. Lake Placid has been on our list of places we wanted to go and we chose to wait until the fall to enjoy seeing all the leaves changing in the Adirondacks. The leaves were a little past peak, but it was still beautiful.  To understand how much we enjoyed this trip, you have to understand how much we enjoy the Olympics.  Let's just say we are Olympic fanatics...the Atwells would understand. :)  On our way in to town, we stopped had lunch at a recommended BBQ place. That afternoon, we only had time to go to one venue before they closed for the day.  If you don't know the history, Lake Placid hosted the Winter Olympics in 1932 and 1980 and is still a site for Olympic training.  First stop - Bobsled, Combination Track   You can pay to ride down the 1932 bobsled course.  It looked fun! After the Bobsled track, we headed back to the hotel and ...
