The House - upstairs

Well, over the past 3 weeks, we have certainly seen a lot of the inside of our four walls lately!  I'm curious how long it takes other people to get in and get settled.  We are definitely not the type to push boxes aside and get to them later.  We are on a mission to CONQUER the house when we move in.  So, on to the results, for those that care... :)  These pictures honestly help a ton when we move from one place to another - helps us remember how things looked!

First up - upstairs.  The downstairs was in the midst of painting mania.  Pictures to come soon on that.

Just a note - we are supposed to be getting blinds soon.  I normally roll pretty well with things in a house, but I really hate the pull down shades.

The Master Bedroom.  When these quarters were remodeled 15 years ago, they took what was 2 bedrooms and made it into the Master bedroom. So, needless to say, the room is huge.  Its nice to have a big room since we have a lot of furniture.  However, if I were building a house, a ton of floor space in the bedroom seems a little wasted.  Just to the left of this picture is a wall of 2 closets.  Again, something I wouldn't choose in a house because it consumes an entire wall, but the closet space is great.  Rugs are also a whole new realm we had to enter in the house!  The entire upstairs is hardwood and downstairs is either hardwood or ceramic tile.  I'm not good at buying rugs.  I'm not a fan of flowery designs or formal looking rugs, so our choices were limited.  All of the rugs we got came from Home Depot and we are happy with all of them so far!

Master Bathroom - behind the door there is a wall of built in shelves.  I honestly don't mind that it is only 1 sink - 1 less sink to clean! :)

Addison's room - Since it is a $50 fee for each room we paint, I'm trying to reign in how much color I throw on the walls!  If I knew we would be in this house for 3 years, I wouldn't mind the money, but to pay $50 a room for 6-9 months, seems a little silly.  So I am holding back on painting the girls' rooms for now.
I honestly can't believe we've had her bedding for this long.  In case you missed it, I'm not a fan of pink.  If we move the girls into one room with a bunkbed, this bedding will be the first thing to go. :)

One of the best things about this house - the closets!  They are all HUGE.  Take a look...

This one closet is Addison's school room and my craft room. We have never lived in a house that you could put a desk in a closet!

We have 3 weeks left of school!  We are excited to start Kindergarten at home in the fall!

The girls' bathroom - much smaller than their last bathroom, but it works.

Mya's Room

Mya's room looking back toward the hall

Just to give perspective, this is the view from the Master.  Mya's room and linen closet on the left, bathroom and school room on the right and Addison's room at the end of the hall.

This is the view if you turn left out of the Master.  Another large closet on the left (luggage!) and then the stairs.

That's the upstairs tour!  Downstairs coming soon!

  1. You know what? We NEVER use the second sink in our master bathroom. I think "needing" to have one is just a lie that HGTV makes you believe. But YAY YOU HAVE DRAWERS!!

Also, YAY you have a craft room!! :D John says I'm losing mine in the next house cuz I never use it. D'oh! Maybe I'll get a closet like yours instead.

Strength

Blogs are interesting.  Some share decorating ideas, some political philosophy, some day to day happenings and many more pictures of family and friends.  We keep everyone updated on the fun events and happy occasions of our everyday lives.  While some people take it a bit to far, I think most of us are not always so quick to share those not so happy moments though...  The moments that we fail completely as a parent.  The moments that we are to busy to stop and help.  The moments we sit in silence and wonder why.  The moments when life is just flat out hard.  In a few weeks I will watch my husband go off to war.   In a few weeks I will have to help a little 3 year old mind grasp how long a year is and how far away daddy will be.   I just found out this morning that my aunt passed away.   Next week the list of names I know on headstones at Arlington will get a little bit longer.  I ache for my friends whose husbands won'...

Change of Command

Here are a few pictures from Chad's Change of Command Ceremony. I hope to get more pictures from the official photographer that day. I didn't get any pictures of myself and my White House Black Market dress! :) The Food... Chad and I aren't huge fans of cake, so we got a cookie cake instead from a local bakery. I wish I had taken a picture of the entire table, but I only at time for a few pictures. Everyone was pretty impressed with the spread. My mom taught me how to prepare lots and lots of food and how to make it tasty! Addison kept snagging food before the ceremony started! C-Troop Taking Command! So proud of Chad! We look forward to serving with the Outcast family!

Lake Placid

Over Columbus Day, we decided to take advantage of the time for one more family trip before the deployment. Lake Placid has been on our list of places we wanted to go and we chose to wait until the fall to enjoy seeing all the leaves changing in the Adirondacks. The leaves were a little past peak, but it was still beautiful.  To understand how much we enjoyed this trip, you have to understand how much we enjoy the Olympics.  Let's just say we are Olympic fanatics...the Atwells would understand. :)  On our way in to town, we stopped had lunch at a recommended BBQ place. That afternoon, we only had time to go to one venue before they closed for the day.  If you don't know the history, Lake Placid hosted the Winter Olympics in 1932 and 1980 and is still a site for Olympic training.  First stop - Bobsled, Combination Track   You can pay to ride down the 1932 bobsled course.  It looked fun! After the Bobsled track, we headed back to the hotel and ...
