GA trip and Birthday Parties

On July 9th I got the call that our dear family friend had taken a turn for the worse and was moved into hospice.  Knowing that it wouldn't be long, we made the decision for the girls and I to go ahead and fly down to GA to be there for the funeral.  We received that call that Bro. Mark had passed away only a few hours after I got to my parents house Wednesday night.  I was very thankful to be there to go show my support for the Browning family and to go through the grieving process with family and friends.  The funeral was a great tribute to a great man of God.  The funeral home viewing seemed more like a reunion than a viewing at times.  There were so many people from years gone by that we grew up with that were so dear to us.  It was great to see so many people come out and the impact that Mark had on each one of them.

Even though our trip was very last minute, it happened to be the same weekend of 2 family birthday parties.  It was a very, very busy few days!

Lilly's 4th Birthday jump party.  Mya's lucky she didn't get "rug" burn on her stomach going down like this!

During the funeral the girls stayed with Chad's parents and got to go to Reece's 10th birthday party.

On the way to the airport, we always try to stop and spend time with my Ma-maw.  She is an amazing seamstress.  Here she is giving Addison her first embroidering lesson!

Strength

Blogs are interesting.  Some share decorating ideas, some political philosophy, some day to day happenings and many more pictures of family and friends.  We keep everyone updated on the fun events and happy occasions of our everyday lives.  While some people take it a bit to far, I think most of us are not always so quick to share those not so happy moments though...  The moments that we fail completely as a parent.  The moments that we are to busy to stop and help.  The moments we sit in silence and wonder why.  The moments when life is just flat out hard.  In a few weeks I will watch my husband go off to war.   In a few weeks I will have to help a little 3 year old mind grasp how long a year is and how far away daddy will be.   I just found out this morning that my aunt passed away.   Next week the list of names I know on headstones at Arlington will get a little bit longer.  I ache for my friends whose husbands won'...

Change of Command

Here are a few pictures from Chad's Change of Command Ceremony. I hope to get more pictures from the official photographer that day. I didn't get any pictures of myself and my White House Black Market dress! :) The Food... Chad and I aren't huge fans of cake, so we got a cookie cake instead from a local bakery. I wish I had taken a picture of the entire table, but I only at time for a few pictures. Everyone was pretty impressed with the spread. My mom taught me how to prepare lots and lots of food and how to make it tasty! Addison kept snagging food before the ceremony started! C-Troop Taking Command! So proud of Chad! We look forward to serving with the Outcast family!

Lake Placid

Over Columbus Day, we decided to take advantage of the time for one more family trip before the deployment. Lake Placid has been on our list of places we wanted to go and we chose to wait until the fall to enjoy seeing all the leaves changing in the Adirondacks. The leaves were a little past peak, but it was still beautiful.  To understand how much we enjoyed this trip, you have to understand how much we enjoy the Olympics.  Let's just say we are Olympic fanatics...the Atwells would understand. :)  On our way in to town, we stopped had lunch at a recommended BBQ place. That afternoon, we only had time to go to one venue before they closed for the day.  If you don't know the history, Lake Placid hosted the Winter Olympics in 1932 and 1980 and is still a site for Olympic training.  First stop - Bobsled, Combination Track   You can pay to ride down the 1932 bobsled course.  It looked fun! After the Bobsled track, we headed back to the hotel and ...
