Family Sickness

In the past few weeks Chad and I have mentioned many times how thankful we are for healthy kids.  I can count on one hand how many times they have been sick and Addison had never really been sick for any length of time besides an ear infection when she was 18 months.  And we have never had any sickness pass around the family.  It was never my intent to be arrogant about this - just thankful to the Lord for healthy kids and family!

Well, that all came to a screeching hault this week!  We had no warning. Tuesday night we went to some friends' house for dinner and everyone was doing fine!  At 5:30 Wednesday morning Mya came in our room, running a fever and said her stomach hurt.  Because we don't have sick kids very often, we weren't thinking and put her in our bed.  Less than 2 minutes later she was throwing up all over me and our bed.  She was laying in the bed or on the couch with a fever until Saturday.  Poor girl was very uncomfortable and let everyone know.  She didn't sleep well, couldn't get comfortable, didn't want to eat.  Love her, but not an easy patient.

Thursday afternoon Chad started feeling sick.  He went to bed around 7:00 and didn't emerge from our room until about 1:00 Friday afternoon.  Thankfully his sickness was short lived and he was feeling better Saturday morning.

Of course sickness would come on the week we had a vacation planned.  Chad had been very busy with class, papers and a big test for the past several weeks and we were all looking forward to getting away for a few days to New Hampshire.  We were supposed to drive half-way Thursday night, but we delayed that until Saturday given Mya and Chad's sickness.  Friday night everyone seemed to be getting better, so we packed everything up and headed to bed around 10:30...only to meet Addison in the hallway.  Thankfully we made it to the bathroom in time!!

The next morning we knew there was no way we could leave, so we called and canceled our trip.  Unfortunately, the $200 deposit is non-refundable.  We can use it to another trip sometime.  We just have to figure out when that will be!

Unpacking from vacation is my least favorite part of the trip.  Unpacking from a vacation you didn't get to go on is even worse!  When Mya saw me unpacking she said, "Are we not going on our adventure??"  Poor thing.  Her and Addison had so been looking forward to the trip, especially since it was going to be a "cheat" weekend complete with muffins, pizza and ice cream.

So, since Wednesday we have been hanging out at home.  Chad is on Spring Break, so he is around to help, which has been great.  Thankfully he has some papers to write to keep him busy.  Even with that, we are all getting cabin fever.  I normally enjoy being at home and can keep busy.   After six days, it does get a little old though.  None of us went to church yesterday in an effort to keep all of our germs in our house.

Thankfully I have remained sickness free.  Throwing up and a 103 fever at 26 weeks pregnant would be pretty miserable, so I am praying I can stay well!  I've been to the chiropractor, drinking lots of water, washing hands, taking Juice Plus, probiotics and vitamin C!

Here's a progression of our week in pictures...

5:30 Victim #1 - Wednesday morning as we cleaned up our bed

Thursday night - Addison still feeling good!

11 PM Friday - Addison falls victim.

How our living room has looked all week.  Even if one of them is feeling better, they take advantage of the other one watching shows.  Needless to say, our kids have watched a ton of TV this week.

Addison is still running 102+ fever today and Mya is still very tired, but has started eating a little.  I am just ready to have my sweet Mya back!!  Perfect example of her mood these days - at 11:45 they were both ready for naps so we were getting them off the coach to go upstairs.  Mya stands up and says, "Aren't somebody going to carry me?  I'm just standing her listening to ya'll talk. I'm sleepy."

Hopefully we are on the road to wellness!!  I do not envy people whose kids are sick more often.  I don't know how you do it!  I know the lack of sleep and needy patients is preparing me for a newborn in the house in a few weeks!

On that note, here is a belly pic...
26 weeks - only 11 weeks to go!  Crazy!!
I know, I know.  I am very pregnant.  I may not gain very much weight when I'm pregnant, but no one has ever said I looked small in my 3rd trimester!

Thursday I got my hair done in anticipation of vacation...and have yet to go anywhere besides the Commissary, so I thought I would share it here so someone could see. :) I loved how she blow dried it to give it more volume!

Hopefully our next update will be from a fever free house!!

Strength

Blogs are interesting.  Some share decorating ideas, some political philosophy, some day to day happenings and many more pictures of family and friends.  We keep everyone updated on the fun events and happy occasions of our everyday lives.  While some people take it a bit to far, I think most of us are not always so quick to share those not so happy moments though...  The moments that we fail completely as a parent.  The moments that we are to busy to stop and help.  The moments we sit in silence and wonder why.  The moments when life is just flat out hard.  In a few weeks I will watch my husband go off to war.   In a few weeks I will have to help a little 3 year old mind grasp how long a year is and how far away daddy will be.   I just found out this morning that my aunt passed away.   Next week the list of names I know on headstones at Arlington will get a little bit longer.  I ache for my friends whose husbands won'...

Change of Command

Here are a few pictures from Chad's Change of Command Ceremony. I hope to get more pictures from the official photographer that day. I didn't get any pictures of myself and my White House Black Market dress! :) The Food... Chad and I aren't huge fans of cake, so we got a cookie cake instead from a local bakery. I wish I had taken a picture of the entire table, but I only at time for a few pictures. Everyone was pretty impressed with the spread. My mom taught me how to prepare lots and lots of food and how to make it tasty! Addison kept snagging food before the ceremony started! C-Troop Taking Command! So proud of Chad! We look forward to serving with the Outcast family!

Lake Placid

Over Columbus Day, we decided to take advantage of the time for one more family trip before the deployment. Lake Placid has been on our list of places we wanted to go and we chose to wait until the fall to enjoy seeing all the leaves changing in the Adirondacks. The leaves were a little past peak, but it was still beautiful.  To understand how much we enjoyed this trip, you have to understand how much we enjoy the Olympics.  Let's just say we are Olympic fanatics...the Atwells would understand. :)  On our way in to town, we stopped had lunch at a recommended BBQ place. That afternoon, we only had time to go to one venue before they closed for the day.  If you don't know the history, Lake Placid hosted the Winter Olympics in 1932 and 1980 and is still a site for Olympic training.  First stop - Bobsled, Combination Track   You can pay to ride down the 1932 bobsled course.  It looked fun! After the Bobsled track, we headed back to the hotel and ...
