March goals

We've had some exciting family news this week - Chad made the promotion list for Major!  Excuse my "Army speak" briefly... This is what is known as a below the zone promotion.  He wasn't slotted for promotion until next year, but normally 5-6% of each year group makes the cut a year early.  This is certainly great news and something that shows how hard Chad has worked and what a great officer he is.  However, it does come at a cost.  This basically speeds up our military timeline by a year.  We are in a period of 3 years out of the deployment cycle, and this promotion could take one of those years away.  As of right now we are slotted to move to Kansas this coming January.  That would only be 11/2 years into our 3 year assignment here.  Now, one would think that the Army would not invest in sending Chad to grad school, only to move him after 8 months in his job.  The Army doesn't always follow practical wisdom though, so we will just have trust the Lord and wait and see.  It is definitely not our plan to move that soon!

That bit of information may change our plans of moving to a bigger house here at West Point too.  Right now we are on the list to move to a 4 bedroom house with a garage.  With the upcoming moving season, we would hope to be assigned a house sometime the end of May or beginning of June (nothing like moving and having a baby at the same time, right??).  However, if we really would have to move in January, it is not worth moving into a bigger house here.  Again, wait and see.

With all of that uncertainty swirling around, why not posts some goals for the month!

- Start Beth Moore Bible Study

- finish current book and start a new one.  My goal for the year is 12 books.  I have finished one and am almost half-way through my second book.  Right now I am reading:

While I know Lisa Whelchel has had her issues in the past few years, I have been really pleased with the ideas given in the book.  Lots of practical ideas and scriptures to go with them.

- Work out more consistently - at least 10 workouts the remainder of the month (we will be out of town so too, so that's the reason for the low number).  I have made it to the gym a few times, but still not as much as I would like.  The bigger I get the more I worry about uterine rupture, given my history.  I know lots of people work out post c-section though.

- 1 date night and 2 family fun nights.

- 5 additional blog posts

- Purchase fabric for  curtain and pillows in the girls room.  I bought new bedding for them this past week.  I am so excited about it!  Of course after search high and low, I always seem to land on Pottery Barn bedding...hence to reason to make the curtains and pillows!  When we moved Addison into a double bed in our house in Alabama, we purchased bedding late one night at Wal-Mart.  My thought was that we would have the bedding for the 5 months we lived in that house.  Well, 3 years later we still have pink princess bedding.  If you know me, you know I am ready to move on!  I am ready for grown up, yet girly decor that can grow with the girls.  They both love it too!  My seamstress expert mother-in-law is going to make curtains and pillows to go with it!

- complete a chore chart from pinterest.  This is a doable, and needed project in our house!

- Write at least 1 thank you note a week.

- Take one picture a day.

Strength

Blogs are interesting.  Some share decorating ideas, some political philosophy, some day to day happenings and many more pictures of family and friends.  We keep everyone updated on the fun events and happy occasions of our everyday lives.  While some people take it a bit to far, I think most of us are not always so quick to share those not so happy moments though...  The moments that we fail completely as a parent.  The moments that we are to busy to stop and help.  The moments we sit in silence and wonder why.  The moments when life is just flat out hard.  In a few weeks I will watch my husband go off to war.   In a few weeks I will have to help a little 3 year old mind grasp how long a year is and how far away daddy will be.   I just found out this morning that my aunt passed away.   Next week the list of names I know on headstones at Arlington will get a little bit longer.  I ache for my friends whose husbands won'...

Change of Command

Here are a few pictures from Chad's Change of Command Ceremony. I hope to get more pictures from the official photographer that day. I didn't get any pictures of myself and my White House Black Market dress! :) The Food... Chad and I aren't huge fans of cake, so we got a cookie cake instead from a local bakery. I wish I had taken a picture of the entire table, but I only at time for a few pictures. Everyone was pretty impressed with the spread. My mom taught me how to prepare lots and lots of food and how to make it tasty! Addison kept snagging food before the ceremony started! C-Troop Taking Command! So proud of Chad! We look forward to serving with the Outcast family!

Lake Placid

Over Columbus Day, we decided to take advantage of the time for one more family trip before the deployment. Lake Placid has been on our list of places we wanted to go and we chose to wait until the fall to enjoy seeing all the leaves changing in the Adirondacks. The leaves were a little past peak, but it was still beautiful.  To understand how much we enjoyed this trip, you have to understand how much we enjoy the Olympics.  Let's just say we are Olympic fanatics...the Atwells would understand. :)  On our way in to town, we stopped had lunch at a recommended BBQ place. That afternoon, we only had time to go to one venue before they closed for the day.  If you don't know the history, Lake Placid hosted the Winter Olympics in 1932 and 1980 and is still a site for Olympic training.  First stop - Bobsled, Combination Track   You can pay to ride down the 1932 bobsled course.  It looked fun! After the Bobsled track, we headed back to the hotel and ...
