Disney Day 5 - Hollywood Studios

After a day off, we were ready to hit the parks again!  Friday it was Hollywood Studios.  Thankfully we didn't miss the first bus. :)

While we were waiting for the park to open, the girls met Daisy and Stitch.

Hollywood Studios and Epcot tier their fast passes.
You still get 3 at the park, but you only get one choice of these:
- Rockin Roller Coaster
-Toy Story
-Fantasmic

We chose Toy Stoy because we knew we could go to Rockin Roller Coaster first.  Since it has a single rider line, it didn't take long for Chad to ride and then Addison and I were able to ride using the rider swap.

Waiting on Daddy to ride...

Addison didn't want to ride.  We left it up to her and she kept saying no.  When I got in line, I turned around and asked one more time if she was sure, and she changed her mind and came with me.  Having ridden the ride many times, I was honestly a little nervous for her to ride.  Thunder Mountain Railroad was the only roller coaster she had ever ridden.  Rockin Roller Coaster doesn't exactly ease you into the ride...and its in the dark...and goes upside down.  I just kept telling her to scream as loud as she wanted and to keep her head back.
I wish I had a picture of her when the ride stopped.  She said, "That was great, but I don't EVER want to ride it again." lol  Now she says its her favorite ride.

After Rockin Roller Coaster, I used my fast pass to ride the Tower of Terror and again, got Chad a rider swap ticket for later.

After there, we headed over to the Pixar area.

Mya was REALLY excited about Sophia and Jake!

We had fast passes to the Disney Junior Live show, but had a few extra minutes, so we saw Minnie and hung out in the Animation building.

Our fast passes said arrive at the Disney Jr. Live Show between 11:05 and 11:15.  We got there at 11:09 and realized that we had wasted our fast passes.  They had already let everyone in and had no reserved seats for fast passes.  (Really don't like sitting on the floor at this show, especially since I needed to feed Lucy...)  After the show we went and asked if we could get our fast passes back and we ended up getting 2 fast passes to anything we wanted!

Lucy loved the show!

Next, it was time to use our Toy Story fast passes!  Love this ride!

Green Army Man from Toy Story "hiding" from the girls.

Since I don't eat a lot of gluten, we had to be a little more picky about where we ate.  We normally eat in the back of the park next to the Honey I Shrunk the Kids playground, but there was nothing on the menu I could eat.  We walked around toward Star Wars and ended up at the Backlot.  It was not crowded and had a great menu.  Our table was right next to the door and the girls could see the Star Wars stage outside.  While Lucy and I were still eating, the girls stepped outside to watch.

Between us eating, bathroom breaks, etc.. the girls probably watched this show for an hour.  Every time Darth Vader came out, Mya jumped.

I used one of our extra fast passes to ride Star Wars, even though I could take it or leave it.  I got a rider swap and Chad took Addison and Mya.  Unfortunately Mya was about 1/4 inch too short.  Poor kid.  So I paid $16 for her to get her face painted. :)

What a cutie!

Next, we headed back to the Honey I Shrunk the Kids playground.  I would like this place if it had a capacity limit of 10 kids.  It is always SOO crowded.  The kids LOVE it though.

While we were at the playground, Chad went on the Backlot Tour.  The girls and I had fast passes to the Little Mermaid show, so we didn't have time to go with him (its a 40 minute ride).

Flight of the Navigator anyone??

Before the Little Mermaid, we had just enough time to watch the movie on Walt Disney - One Man's Dream.  My day was complete. :)
(The Little Mermaid show is "low budget" as we would say.  Mya liked it, but on a busy day, I would skip it.)

You knew this was coming...even though she could ride everything in the park, if Mya had her face painted you know she wanted hers!

By this time we realized we needed to go watch the last Beauty and the Beast Show of the day.  Such a great show!
The only thing left on our list was the Muppets Show.  We had every intention of making it over there. (The whole Star Wars ordeal took way longer than we intended.) However, it was time for dinner and we didn't want to push the kids by walking across the whole park again.  We ate dinner and didn't say anything about the Muppets Show.  We knew Fantasmic would fill up and it wasn't worth trying to rush over there and rush back.

Waiting for Fantasmic to start. While we were waiting, Chad used his fast passes to ride Rockin Roller Coaster and the Tower of Terror.

Mya and Lucy took a nap!  Mya woke up for the show, but slept for a solid hour before!

During the pre-show entertainment -

This kid is seriously the energizer bunny.  As long as there is activity around her, she can keep going.  She could probably outlast Chad and me!

After watching Fantasmic for the second time, I don't know that I would go back.  The theme of the show is dark - Mickey's nightmare and fighting villains.  Its a neat show (over 10,000 people at each showing!), but parts are scary for the kids and it takes SO much time out of the day.  The show starts at 8:30, but you need to get there around 7 or 7:30 for a decent seat. We will skip it next time.

Funny story - almost a week after we got home Addison looked at me and said, "Mom! We forgot to go to the Muppets Show!" Ha! Just means we will have to go back. :)

Strength

Blogs are interesting.  Some share decorating ideas, some political philosophy, some day to day happenings and many more pictures of family and friends.  We keep everyone updated on the fun events and happy occasions of our everyday lives.  While some people take it a bit to far, I think most of us are not always so quick to share those not so happy moments though...  The moments that we fail completely as a parent.  The moments that we are to busy to stop and help.  The moments we sit in silence and wonder why.  The moments when life is just flat out hard.  In a few weeks I will watch my husband go off to war.   In a few weeks I will have to help a little 3 year old mind grasp how long a year is and how far away daddy will be.   I just found out this morning that my aunt passed away.   Next week the list of names I know on headstones at Arlington will get a little bit longer.  I ache for my friends whose husbands won'...

Change of Command

Here are a few pictures from Chad's Change of Command Ceremony. I hope to get more pictures from the official photographer that day. I didn't get any pictures of myself and my White House Black Market dress! :) The Food... Chad and I aren't huge fans of cake, so we got a cookie cake instead from a local bakery. I wish I had taken a picture of the entire table, but I only at time for a few pictures. Everyone was pretty impressed with the spread. My mom taught me how to prepare lots and lots of food and how to make it tasty! Addison kept snagging food before the ceremony started! C-Troop Taking Command! So proud of Chad! We look forward to serving with the Outcast family!

Lake Placid

Over Columbus Day, we decided to take advantage of the time for one more family trip before the deployment. Lake Placid has been on our list of places we wanted to go and we chose to wait until the fall to enjoy seeing all the leaves changing in the Adirondacks. The leaves were a little past peak, but it was still beautiful.  To understand how much we enjoyed this trip, you have to understand how much we enjoy the Olympics.  Let's just say we are Olympic fanatics...the Atwells would understand. :)  On our way in to town, we stopped had lunch at a recommended BBQ place. That afternoon, we only had time to go to one venue before they closed for the day.  If you don't know the history, Lake Placid hosted the Winter Olympics in 1932 and 1980 and is still a site for Olympic training.  First stop - Bobsled, Combination Track   You can pay to ride down the 1932 bobsled course.  It looked fun! After the Bobsled track, we headed back to the hotel and ...
