Apple Pickin'

We have all been looking forward to the opportunity to go Apple Picking!  Last week we drove down to Mexico, NY to a local orchard.  I guess I have never seen an apple tree...they were a lot smaller than I had imagined!





First up - Honey Crisp.  I am normally a Granny Smith only kind of girl, but Wow.  These are SO good!  We ate one on the way home.  It was HUGE and so juicy!  MMM!





Unfortunately NY's growing season is 4 weeks too short for Granny Smith apples.  The Jenna Blush is supposed to be very similar. 




 

I couldn't believe all the apples on the ground!  I hope they feed them to horse or something.  What a shame for all those to go to waste!

Who ever had the idea to give away a whistle in a kid's meal has obviously never been in on a long car ride with a child and the afore mentioned whistle!

Hopefully we will have a chance to pick more apples before the quickly approaching winter hits!

Change of Command

Here are a few pictures from Chad's Change of Command Ceremony. I hope to get more pictures from the official photographer that day. I didn't get any pictures of myself and my White House Black Market dress! :) The Food... Chad and I aren't huge fans of cake, so we got a cookie cake instead from a local bakery. I wish I had taken a picture of the entire table, but I only at time for a few pictures. Everyone was pretty impressed with the spread. My mom taught me how to prepare lots and lots of food and how to make it tasty! Addison kept snagging food before the ceremony started! C-Troop Taking Command! So proud of Chad! We look forward to serving with the Outcast family!

Lake Placid

Over Columbus Day, we decided to take advantage of the time for one more family trip before the deployment. Lake Placid has been on our list of places we wanted to go and we chose to wait until the fall to enjoy seeing all the leaves changing in the Adirondacks. The leaves were a little past peak, but it was still beautiful.  To understand how much we enjoyed this trip, you have to understand how much we enjoy the Olympics.  Let's just say we are Olympic fanatics...the Atwells would understand. :)  On our way in to town, we stopped had lunch at a recommended BBQ place. That afternoon, we only had time to go to one venue before they closed for the day.  If you don't know the history, Lake Placid hosted the Winter Olympics in 1932 and 1980 and is still a site for Olympic training.  First stop - Bobsled, Combination Track   You can pay to ride down the 1932 bobsled course.  It looked fun!
